Baffling Audio Problem
by Collin Alexander 8 years ago
Stereo audio files that used to play correctly now will only play one side, or the other, but not both. On successive playbacks, audio will alternate between playing on the left, then the right. Occas

Brendan, I too was bringing audio from many different formats into the project. That may be the original culprit. You may be able to solve it by identifying exactly which piece of media is corrupted (

Why is Disconnected Media Such a Disaster?
by Collin Alexander 9 years ago
If the hard drive gets disconnected for whatever reason, all the media goes offline. This makes sense. But when the hard drive re-mounts, why is it such a disaster for Final Cut Why must all media now

After effects does a way better job of retaining links and regaining them. I wish fcp would pick some ideas from how effective that linking process is. Their basic function is VERY similar...

(Legal) DVD Ripping, Why Frame Blended?
by Collin Alexander 9 years ago
I'm working on a private documentary. The family wants me to use a bunch of home movie footage this guy shot in Alaska, and the only surviving copies are all on DVD. I'm ripping the DVDs in MPEG Strea
Re: (Legal) DVD Ripping, Why Frame Blended?
by Collin Alexander 9 years ago
I understand all that. But either my original DVD was frame-blended by someone, or else it wasn't. It's possible to de-interlace footage, then blend frames, then re-interlace it to an interlaced DVD.
Invert Tracking Data?
by Collin Alexander 10 years ago
How do I invert tracking data in AE In Motion you use "unstabilize". Must be an easy way in AE. I stabilized footage, then composited various things onto it. Now I need to unstabilize everything. Than

Brilliant, yes AK explains it well. His method worked right off. Pre Comp. Expand the comp dimensions. Make a new comp. Copy the position data to anchor point, and anchor point data to position. Then
He Was a Quiet Man speed effects - how?
by Scott Heydinger 10 years ago
The movie "He Was a Quiet Man" had a really interesting special effect. The main character was shown walking down the sidewalk in real time as the rest of the world sped by at high speed. It's easy to

Or, if all the background people and cars were extras, and you could completely clear the streets, you could shoot the actor walking on empty streets with nothing moving. If you kept the cameras in pl
Image mask in AE?
by Collin Alexander 10 years ago
How do you create an image mask in After Effects Basically I want to take the alpha information from one clip, invert it, and apply that to another clip. It's so easy in Motion. Thanks.

Yes, thank you, track matte is exactly it. Invert alpha matte. Works.
Help Finding Tutorial Again

Real-Time Luma Key

I'm thinking about getting an AVID system. Can anyone verify that it does real-time chroma key and real-time luma key We're a recording studio, we'd be using the AVID for a lot of music videos. I'm lo

Thanks for replies. We were thinking about Symphony 3.5 because we have an opportunity to buy a particular system from a guy. Also, my son just finished his first year of college, and that has got us
Major Bug in Motion 3.02
by Collin Alexander 12 years ago
I'm convinced it's not me. Motion has a major defect. Paint and Particle emitters do not exist correctly in the 3D environment. They will appear either in front of or behind other objects depending on
Re: Major Bug in Motion 3.02
by Collin Alexander 12 years ago
Thank you very much sir. OK. I'm not crazy, it's not me. It's not a checkbox. There are situations where the compositing is based on layer order, and not on position in 3D space. I'll just use a 2D "d
Paint Shows Through Video
by Collin Alexander 12 years ago
OK, I'll try again. This would take about 30 seconds for someone to try. Please confirm or deny this bug for me. In Motion. 1. Place a video into the comp. 2. Select new camera. 3. Make 3D 4. Rotate t
Re: Paint Shows Through Video

I'll do screenshots later tonight. The layer order doesn't fix it, I've tried dragging the paint layer either above or below the video, it doesn't matter. Yes, the paint is 3D. I have the same problem
