IRE does not exist in digital video. There are no volts. Their request is nonsensical. Video black in 8-bit is 16. That's it. Unless you're laying it out to analog tape, there isn't IRE involved. You

Hi I will be creating super slow-mo effect from footage shot at 60fps on a canon 5D. It will be of a BMX rider. First I will conform it in cinema tools to 24p. However following this there seems to be

I want to do a short time lapse. The camera was really still looking down at a far away town with moving cars, etc. I'm wondering what I might do to make it look interesting (obviously other than up t

Things like motion trails might be neat, etc. Lots of things to play around with. I've had really neat effects with sunsets doing chunks of footage with fades to create a time-lapse without speeding u

My situation is that I am rendering DVCPro HD 720 30p out from the timeline into anamorphic SD DVCPro25, using quicktime conversion, and it is slow going. I have an octo-core mac tower to edit on, FCS

PSD Gradient still has banding issues once brought into FCP
by Bryan Haney 8 years ago
I know this is an old and timely problem. But can anyone help me or point mein the right direction. I have created a BKGRND screen in PS, it contains a gradient. It's a reddish color gradient that is
Re: PSD Gradient still has banding issues once brought into FCP

Does FCP re-map incoming images to video range This would cause banding problems on gradients. I don't really do critical work with FCP, so I've never investigated cared about this, but sRGB graphics
Delivering in 720P but filmed in 1080P what would you do?
by Rubin Polizzi 8 years ago
Hey everybody so I just want to double check my thinking here and to see what others would do. I am working in FCP7 and the final delivery is a 720P ProRes file. The footage was shot on a 5DMKII at 10
Re: Delivering in 720P but filmed in 1080P what would you do?
by Chris Wiggles 8 years ago
I would output the master file in 1080p, then scale and or compress to whatever you need using compressor, etc. I shoot 1080 (i, usually) all the time, and when I compress for the web, I just compress

You can deliver a monitor that has been calibrated, but was it calibrated in your room at with the exact same level of ambient lighting And if it is, for instance, a plasma monitor in particular, has
Is the occasional log and transfer problem normal?
by Noam Osband 8 years ago
Rarely, I try to transfer some clips and FCP will start and then stop. When I go to look at the log and transfer screen, they have a red x next to them. I usually have to try 1 or 2 more times and the

I had problems in the past with long clips when using an external USB drive while also connected with my camera via USB. Went away with SATA drives. Regards, Chris
Fine editing in FCP

The only way to do sub-frame adjustments is within the audio, you can't do it with the video in the timeline. Regards, Chris

Re: Timelapse in post

I've done this in the past with really nice results by simply taking portions of the longer clip and fading them into each other. You can try this in addition to speeding it up. Depends also what you'
Changing the resolution in Motion?

Think I answered my own question with the Export settings, just changed it to 720p and voila! Duh. : I wonder though, if this causes any degradation compared to doing everything 720p to begin with...
ATSC Broadcast Color Spec

Out of curiosity, since the switch to digital broadcasting, is the broadcast community still recommending Rec.709 with 16-235 levels or since the picture itself isn't part of additional data transfer,
Re: ATSC Broadcast Color Spec

It appears to me, at least I have always assumed, that FCP displays much as QT displays video on playback: it expands the range to 0-255. But that the actual video is 16-235. So for instance if you ju

You just need to connect them to the same network, hopefully on a fast switch. You could connect them via the 2-port switch on the mac if you want, but then I am pretty sure you have to have the mac o
