A good scope is great for this. You put it on vertical mode and put your legal graphic up over black for ease of readability. You can then count horizontally the number of lines the graphic occupies.

First rule of thumb. Never use color combinations over 235,235,235 White. or 16,16,16 black, for broadcast. If you keep everything below 235 and above 16 you should be ok in most cases. Charlie
