I wonder if the encoder you're using is dropping frames on encode Is there any way you can post a small sample file that exhibits the playback issues
custom sizes for MPEG-2
by nick van der grinten 13 years ago
Hi, We are a mac based studio and have to produce and encode a variety of different sises of MPEG-2 files for an installation. We've been asked to provide some as standard screen formats and we're fin

I would check out the MainConcept encoder.

Don't know about Squeeze, but I am pretty sure Rhozet Carbon encoder supports XDCAM on the PC. I also believe ffmpeg and VirtualDub can support XDCAM files with the proper support libs.

On2 bought and now distributes and manages the Flix products. Flix Pro is quite feature-laden when it comes to encoding FLV. Per other options, personally I really like the On2 encoding capabilities o

On a Duel G-5, 3GB Ram, FCP 5.1, I have completed a client "KenBurns" FCP sequence(41 Min). Exported to Compressor Mpeg-2 2 pass - aiff settings. In video work I use these settings. The batch fails in

For this type of video and encoding to MPEG-2, I would recommend either BitVice or Episode.
Compression headache
by Owen RR 13 years ago
Hi, Apologies for making my first post a technical problem but I'm having difficulties with what I suspect may be the finer points of m2v compression. I've read quite a few of the posts on this forum
Re: Compression headache

Based on what you stated above, I am led to believe that it is the DVD player causing the problem. MPEG-2 for DVD is YUV 4:2:0, and it sounds like the DVD player is doing a poor job converting the YUV
Batch processing assistance
by TheBtrain 13 years ago
Hi all, Got a batch processing question. I've just exported over 100 DVD files. 100 .m2v and 100 .ac3. Each pair of files has an identical name (except the file extension of course) I need each pair o
Re: Batch processing assistance

Right, and MSC should do this. If you import a .m2v into MSC and there is a .m1a or .ac3 with the exact same file name in the exact same directory, then it should automatically recognize the audio and
HDV captures only with mono audio

I am about to begin my first HDV based project (have always worked with HD SDI) and am running into an issue with the initial captures. Whenever I attempt to capture using native HDV the audio is only
Re: HDV captures only with mono audio

Looks like it was an issue with my user account. I set up a new user account and FCP captures fine with the HDV material from there.
HD Quality MP4 Conversion

Hi. I'm working on an HD project using Final Cut 5 and my client wants the project on a Movie Cube player. Unfortunately, Movie Cube will not play .mov files. It will play MP4s (though sadly not H.264
Re: HD Quality MP4 Conversion

Popwire has an excellent MPEG-4 Part 2 encoder in Compression Master. Much, much better than Apple's encoder (or anyone else's for that matter). Does the cube play back uncompressed AVI's If so, expor
scaling question
by Lauren 14 years ago
hi- i am working on a job for an artist who wants to take 16 streams of video and scale them down to display on one screen. the image is graphic - lots of lines - the 16 images form one large drawing.
Re: scaling question
by Charles Simonson 14 years ago
DV will not look good blown up to HD resolution. The only work-around is to redraw the lines thicker. So, the lines are 1 pixel thick now, they will need to be 3 or 4 pixels thick for this project. Th
HELP... HDV vs. DVCPro HD (from AfterEffects to FCP 5)

In a bit of debate with an editor at a post house... what is the better format of the two (HDV or DVCPro HD) for export of graphics from AE to fcp

Yes, either Photo-JPEG for progressive, Motion-JPEG for interlaced, or Animation for alpha channel content. If you need alphas, but Animation is too much, then try PNG.

Please do not go by QuickBench or any other disk bench utility to determine the actual speed throughput of the drive. Ask Walter Biscardi about this, as he has run many tests regarding benchmarks to r

Re: Quicktime - Windows Media Player - Real player????

Walter is correct here; and to clarify, WMVs will only play in QT with the F4M QT decoder plugin installed for Mac OS X, something that certainly cannot be guaranteed. Also, about MPEG-1s, with the pr
FCP > h.264 questions

When going from FCP to QT H.264 is there any quality beenfit by using a 3rd party app like cleaner or squeeze quality out of fcp seems excellent. One problem is adjusting gamma for windows playback. t
Re: windows QT auto gamma correction?
by Charles Simonson 14 years ago
The gamma corrections controls are built in to the MPEG-4 encoder decompressor. When the movie is opened on a PC, QT makes the automatic adjustments, as well on a mac.
