I have been able to open a read only PowerPoint in Keynote. Builds are the animations that are built into the slideshow. some builds are not compatible with Keynote and will have to be re-built.

When you import your video through the import window you should be able to select the ranges and import only those ranges. Depending on what you are importing from.
