The zoom H6 does NOT have time code function anywhere in the machine. What it does have is a time of day in the meta data files.

I currently use zoom H4N. Doesn't have the greatest preamps. I use it with my Rode NTG3 shotgun microphone. Mainly to record dialog on a boom. Looking to upgrade for something with better preamps gain

It will all depend on your work flow.... There are a couple of things the the new series MixPre series don't have.... They don't have a 'dual card' record. On my shoots i will often hand over one card

Yes have to agree with you separate audio files are a real pain.... I do a lot of dual Multi camera shoots for interviews etc (my role is location sound). My normal setup is a Sound Devices 442 mixer

You're taking a lot of time - using a lot of extra equipment - and adding a lot of complexity to a process that will give you essentially the exact same results by simply having your interviewer stand
