There is definitely something up with the Xref and the cloner. I've yet to be able to swap out the referencing object with the real deal while the cloning heirarchy remains intact. The machine crashes

That's VERY unfortunate. If the software makes a copy, it can get very messy with multiple copies - Final Cut should at least add a number to the end of a new nest that it creates so the user knows it

Agreed...I do this all the time. It is a bug. Especially with DVCPro50 SD clips. I think with all the codecs and possible combinations both AE and FCP make a best guess, but you have to be the master

Depth of field is great for blur and that works fine but I really need to sell the effect of distance by having the further objects take on more of the background color to simulate fog or murky liquid
