I m not disconnecting the drives. I eject them, then power them down.

I wasn't sure if there was a quick workaround or not but I'll simply cut a clean plate of the background and fix it that way I guess.

I'm not sure you would want to: you would need to at least double the focal length just to get an image (or it will barely register on your sensor). Might have luck converting to M43, but no promises.
