If its the i frame only mpeg codec in the sequence is used you dont check the Use Preview feature. I frame only mpeg is a preview codec and of lesser quality. If its proress its ok to use that feature

Canon has a plugin for FCPx, Premiere etc to edit MXF files. FCPx still reads the files even though you dont have the card file structurer intact. Canon XF Utility. -----------------------------------

What you need is a converter like Grass Valley, they work over firewire. They are the best. http: www.grassvalley.com products converters A usb converter is know to have out of sync issues. ----------
