You can try saving the effect as a preset, removing it from the solid. Changing the solid settings size and then re-applying. i haven't tried this, it may work but I suspect that Particle world works

Hi there, Although you can use the Luma Matte technique a much easier way is simply to use the paint directly on the layer that you want to make transparent using the Alpha setting for your Brush tool

Hi there, I feel your pain, I'd love to be able to paint directly in the comp panel too. As a workaround you can duplicate a copy of your video and use that to paint on instead of using a solid layer.
