The only advantage is if you want to keep anything you add to the cut in 10bit-- dissolves, titles, graphics, color correction so there is actually an advantage, as it will prevent further banding if

These are, yes, as you guessed... tracking spikes. When compositing, replacing a background, etc., they allow compositing so that the replaced elements can track the camera moves and allow the pieces

The way I did it, is start a custom setting from scratch. It should work that way too right Shouldn't have to duplicate it...
