I was just using the tint as an example. It happens with any effect applied to the pre-comp. I tried turning off openGL and cleaning the cashes, but that did not work.

Actually, there is a plug-in called "light wipe" that will achieve that effect identically. If I didn't know better, I'd say that's exactly what they used.
