What resolution is the .MXF files Can you post "media info" (its an app) on the .MFX files If the files are just mpeg2 422 50, that is what Sony calls XDCAM422. You should be able to edit that format

Depending on the distance from camera, I would say that shot is 100mm+ based on the background compression.
