New HP workstation speed issues
by Aaron Kent 5 years ago
Just got upgraded to a new HP z820 at work. 24 cores. Adobe After Effects CC 2014. Just starting to set things up and I'm experiencing very slow ram preview and rendering from a machine of this spec.

Yeah, if I get extreme it will fire up a multiprocessor preview, but it's slow relatively speaking versus a plain old RAM preview on these simple comps. I can dial the number of cores that I give away

Thanks Pierre. I am trying a 4096 by 4096 map at 16 bit for testing. I think that should be sufficient. AK

Posted this in the main AE forum and received no response, hoping for better luck here, sorry if it's too basic Ok, so I do a lot of overlays for pre-recorded events and I was wondering if it was pos

After Effects CS 6 Workstation

Just about his time last year, I made a post about purchasing a workstation for After Effects. I received lots of great advice, but for a number of reasons, I did not go through with the buy. I have b

General question
by Aaron Kent 7 years ago
I have a general question for some of you advanced expression script writers. Why is it computationally and or logistically such a tall order for AE to return the height or width in pixels of a text l
Re: General question

I think only the Adobe engineers could answer your question. Scripting has sourceRectAtTime(), which works very well, but I have no idea what it would take to implement the same functionality in expre
function curve drives interpolation
by Aaron Kent 7 years ago
Hello all. I am wondering if it is possible to use a function curve keyed on another parameter to act as a replacement of "linear" or "ease" interpolation expression I searched around here and found o

Thanks Dan. These are two great lessons exercises in and of themselves. I'm going to try to actually combine these two things into what I think I'm trying to achieve. I will post back my results. Chee
seperate dimensions / motion path tangents
by Aaron Kent 7 years ago
Why is it that when you take an objects position channel and seperate the dimensions, you lose the ability to adjust motion path tangents in the comp window Cheers AK
Re: seperate dimensions / motion path tangents

If you right click on the position channel of a layer (2D or 3D) you can select "seperate dimensions" which breaks out the X, Y and (if its a 3d layer) the Z channel into seperate keyable channels. On

As a long time Softimage and Lightwave user I'm naturally a little threadbare with the evolution of applications where the tail wags the dog. Being in the middle of a rather big production job I would

Output is not my problem. The settings above cause C4D to conform my rendered movie to a specific frame rate (for instance 30 frames to 29.97). What I need is to set the project framerate setting to 2
