Josh, your budget and workflow needs will depict what gear you get. My feeling is you are not ready for this venture. When you are ready, you'll not have any of these questions.

If you are having codec issues, ect, you can always throw the file into Sorenson Squeeze (or even after effects) and generate the file you need foryour project.

Answered in your cross post in the Art of Edit forum but in a nutshell, you'll stop hangin out at the jr college and get to work. You'll need to know Avid, FCP and Premiere to marketable as an editor

Because FCP's speed changes tear up the video so, You might want to think about doing it in AE. Either way, slow it down to your liking or strobe it to get the vibe ya want.

Never. I either use a shotgun on the camera or the camera mic itself when just grabbing nats. A boom op will cost ya many shots when shooting nonscripted content.
