I don't understand why you're using "index-1" in the first place. "Index" will return your layer number, but you have it referencing your effect. so if the expression-ed layer is, say, layer 50, then

If you have FCP installed you can still use prores. But a lot of other editors (myself included) are using DNxHD from AVID instead. It's cross-platform and free. And it looks great. Ben Unguren Motion

Make sure all the animating stuff is in the precomp. Then it should work simply by enabling time remapping (command+opt+T) for your layer. Just tweak your start and end keyframe and you're set. Using

Well, your source timeline is 29.97, so it makes sense that a 29.97 export will look better than one at 24. It would work better to export at 29.97, then take it into AE and try to resample the frames

For a temporary fix, you can arrange your precomped layer in the correct 2D order (above the layer behind it, below the layer in front of it, i.e.). My guess is this will also prevent any intersection
