Hi All, Been shooting with my 7d for a month now, really like it, have come from Digi so there is a fair bit to get used to! My only real issue thus far is that I am getting awful strobing when pannin

If I saw those clips without reading this thread, I would probably assume it was just a jittery playback. It sounds like your work flow is pretty solid, so there's no reason to assume any problems wer

Re: 5D chroma sampling

For what it's worth, the reason that the 5d has so much trouble with moire patterns is because of the recording pattern the sensor uses in video mode. There is no workaround. Google "line skipping" if

By the way, the MPEG-2 Playback Component is only $20. I don't actually have it, so I can't really vouch for it. (For broadcast work I use Episode with broadcast presets provided by the client).

Simple is a relative term. I have gotten descent smoke effects using fractal noise, but usually only for a really subtle look. There is a smoke preset that can be tweaked to look almost OK. If you pla

Re: Exporting Tracking Data In Mocha

I have Mocha for AE, which was free with AE CS4. It is limited in that it can't export video, but doesn't limit the exporting of tracking and corner pin data. Are you using CS4+ If so, your licenses m

Just make sure to keep your keyframes to a minimum, and try to match them to the motion of the actor's head. The number one thing that gives away a bad roto is jittery edges.
Keep Motion From Parent After Parents Deletion

Re: Keep Motion From Parent After Parents Deletion

If I'm following you correctly, you're ball is parented to a null and offset so that when the null rotates the ball moves in an arc, right Personally that doesn't sound like a great way to do it. Firs

H.264 is pretty much the only web HD format. The quality is going to be affected mostly by your bitrate settings. Also, it's difficult to know what you mean by "trails." If they are in fact compressio

I don't have cs5 yet, so I don't know if there is a direct way to do it, but you can always use your roto-brushed layer as a track matte.

Re: FCP refuses to import .mov file

Sorry to say it, but those videos are not in an editing codec and need to be transcoded. Even if you found some magic way to import them as is, it will cause problems all through your workflow. On top

When you do your transcode, set it to 29.97 and progressive. Also, stick to Prores 422 (or Prores LT if you have FCP7). Recording 60 frames per second requires a lot more in-camera resources and limit

1080i is actually an older format, so your projector probably can be set that way. If you are using your projector as a second monitor, try switching the resolution to 1080 interlaced in the system pr

Re: Video Cadence Problem - 4:1/3:2

There is a difference between cadence and pull down. The pull down (where you wrote 3:2) is the pattern that 4 progressive frames are split into 10 interlaced fields. The cadence refers to a reference
