The meters can show levels above 0dB because internally FCP has mixed sequence audio at 32 bit floating point for as long as I can remember. Just like with floating point precision on images it allows

Go to User Preferences General tab and check that the "Real-time Audio Mixing" preference is set to more than "8". You can safely bump it to 24 or 32 tracks and should be quite happy. MartinDigital He

I used to have to do this a LOT and found the quickest way was to draw a selection in Photoshop with a mouse, then invert it and delete the outside area. Always came out rough enough :-)MartinDigital

Two words: compression (that's audio levels not file size) and normalisation. - Compression reduces the dynamic range of your audio and makes a huge difference by reducing the peaks and making the mix

There is no reason whatsoever why you can't record anamorphic onto Beta SP. Sure it's not as good as digi but neither format were originally designed for 16:9 - anamorphic video is essentially a hack.
