Thanks Chris, got it going now. I used an app called Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool, then reinstalled Application manager, all working swimmingly now! http: helpx.adobe.com creative-suite kb cs5-cl

Alright, I think I get it. Select clips -- assign role. I can use the minimize button to shrink the tracks that I've already assigned, and then assign (or re-assign) the remaining tracks. Makes sense.
