Pretty much mind-blowing with 3.33 MacPro 6 core and Quadro 4000. Most things play real time at half res and even full res for the first couple of seconds. Mind blowing.

59.94 is pretty much as close to reality as we can get. It is what it is- super clean motion images without judder- like you're there. Best for sports and reality TV.

No you can't pull it from that hard drive. The DVR records DV which is exactly the same format as shooting to tape so there is no image quality advantage to using the DVR.

When you digitize your footage via firewire does it come in as separate clips at each take as with the JVC If so then it should be easy to just use compressor to batch encode all the individual clips

The camera should take a second or two to adjust but that's all. Sounds like you need to find another unit for playback to confirm that footage is actually there. Best of luck.
