Hey Jim, The search filter is one level of limiting the effects shown. Using the Icon Filters as you noticed drills down the filter again. And yes these guys only show video based effects transitions.

If you have opened a 5.5 project in CS6 you may experience the project panel search filter to go grey and restrict availability. Try to save and restart. If this doesn't work, then try to start a new

Control Right click on any audio track name, check "delete audio tracks", select "all empty tracks" and from there on just drag any track below the master track and a compatible track will be created
