The footage is coming out of After Effects, 29.97fps Uncompressed 8bit 422, then compressor is used to create the M2V. The source material is mostly animations done in AE.

I just edited a rather long timeline made of ProRes 720p on a laptop (PC-WXP) with a USB drive... It wasn't quite RT, and when any effects were used, it slowed up...but I'd guess it's strictly a matte

The BlackMagic card does a great job of upconverting from 4:1:1. It looks just like seeing DV being played off the original tape onto a really good broadcast monitor.
